This 1.5-horsepower hard cheese grater with microswitch from Omcan (model 11405) is a simple machine with a simple but essential task to perform: if you have a lot of hard cheese to grate, this is the appliance for you. You load chunks of hard cheese (parmesan, romano, asiago, etc.) into the hopper and press the chunks down using the hinged pusher arm (this keeps your hands safely away from the grating action. The cheese chunks fall down and are grated and shredded by contact with a spiked axle basically a rolling pin with protruding studs that grinds away at the hard cheese. The shredded final product falls down into your waiting receptacle for use and this machine will grate about 198 pounds (90 kg) of cheese an hour. The housing, basin and hopper of this fine machine are all stainless steel; the grating drum is cast iron. This grater will not work on soft, moist cheeses; they tend to gum up the works and will void the one-year warranty. This machine is good however at grating stale breads into bread crumbs. Made in Italy.
