This hard cheese grater from Omcan (model 21719) has a half-horsepower motor with microswitch. It is a very simple machine that has a simple and essential task it needs to execute: if you have large quantities of hard cheese you need to grate, then this is a great appliance for you. Simply load pieces of hard cheese (romano, asiago, parmesan, etc.) into the stainless steel hopper and with the hinged pusher arm press the cheese downwards (using the pusher keeps your hands safe and away from the grating. The cheese gets grated / shredded by rough contact with the machine's spiked barrel, which looks like a rolling pin studded with protruding spikes. Shredded cheese then falls down into the waiting receptacle, ready for use. This cheese grater will process about 66 pounds (30 kg) of hard cheese per hour. The basin, housing and hopper of the Omcan cheese grater are stainless steel while that the grating drum or axle is made of cast iron. Note: this device can't process moist, soft cheeses, which tend to clog up the works; using this machine to try and process soft cheese will unfortunately void the warranty. This machine excels at grinding stale bread into bread crumbs, however. Made in Italy.
